Portrait Canvas Production Process

Introduction to Portrait Canvas

Ben, Production & Process Development Specialist:

I would say, with the Portrait Canvas Line, what makes it so unique and something that was so interesting to me was that the finesse that needs to be developed over time to work with these products and understand how the materials work and the process is they're very delicate in nature. Thank you.

The Process

Ben:

So the process of portrait canvas that Richie and I work on is once we receive the order we inspect the prints from the printer to ensure that there isn't any banding there isn't any blemishes we determine what the substrate is if it's a stretcher or a Masonite once we determine what product type they are we will cut the canvas out of a 62 inch wide roll two sides we will peel the Emulsion from the backing paper which is a pretty I would say meticulous process to go through.

We are able to press a canvas that we have that has an adhesive already on it that we activate with a little bit of water heat and pressure once the prints are pressed onto the canvas we can then Mount them to either substrate that they go to which is a Masonite or a stretcher and from there they move down to the spray booth and receive their spray coating.

Finishing Tips

Richie, Production Specialist:

The best way to get a good finish is going about the smallest details and that's cleaning out the ports the ports that you have on here are the very small Parts where the air comes through when you get the air coming through right you're going to get a great finish and now White House we like to send out a great finish.

Personal Reflections

Ben:

In the past 11 years working with Richie I consider Richie to be one of those people that is very very detail orientated and honestly has become recognizable to me as one of the best at what he does for his product line in the entire country.

Unique Features

Ben:

The unique part about what we have is a lot of the products that go into this product are acid free they're pH balance so conservation wise they they'll withstand the test of time.
